Modern Chalet
Tagaytay City

The brief
A unique challenge of this project was that we needed to transform two separate condos into a cohesive dream vacation home. The client, a returning collaborator of Tanaw Studio, envisioned a space that is a complete departure from her city residence.
She wanted to feel like was in a completely different place, or country even. To bridge this desire, we blended traditional chalet elements and rich wood textures but balanced it with modern furniture and accents.

The touch of contemporary style elevates the look and prevents the design from looking too rustic or too cliche or themed. A key design feature is the expansive wood-textured ceiling, which delivers a cozy ambience without compromising on openness.

Combining two adjacent units required coordination with the building administrator to determine the maximum possible opening. While a completely open layout was our initial vision, structural limitations only allowed enough opening for a double door.
To address this we simply custom designed the double doors and made it a major feature of the space. To accentuate that, we added a curved shelving by the opening where mementos and decor can be displayed.
